About fissure sealants
The chewing surfaces of back teeth have deep grooves, called fissures, where food and bacteria collect. These grooves are hard to clean, so decay often starts there.
A sealant fills and seals the grooves, making the tooth easier to keep clean. It is quick, needs no drilling or injection, and is often placed on adult molars soon after they come through.
